On the 1st of April 2017, Kadia launched The Outlandish Collection. The EP follows up our award nominated debut album East of Alexandria.

Chris said “recording this project in a real analogue studio, with the calibre of equipment and engineering talent available, was just the best experience we have ever had as musicians and we are excited to release what we’ve created.”

The lead single, Lady Isabel and the Elf Knight, received its worldwide debut play on Ange Hardy’s Folk Findings radio show at 9pm on 2nd March on Blues and Roots Radio (www.bluesandrootsradio.com). At the same time the video was released on YouTube – view it here https://www.youtube.com/Weband. Imagined as a puppet theatre playing out the story of the song, the video also features six cameo appearances. Two are characters connected with Kadia’s debut album East of Alexandria, one is a character from popular culture, another (which appears twice) is a popular character from the folk world and the remaining two are famous ladies.

We have massively increased our profile as a national folk trio since East of Alexandria was released in 2015. That album made the Telegraph Top Folk Albums of 2015 and was nominated for the Debut Album of 2015 by Fatea Magazine. Our live shows have won us the most plaudits and last year we were rewarded by being invited to perform on Main Stage 2 at Cambridge Folk Festival alongside Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys, La Vent du Nord and Wildwood Kin.

We have already had the opportunity to support many high profile stars of the folk world including Jim Moray, Gilmore & Roberts, The Willows, Nizlopi, Jackie Oates, Chris Leslie (Fairport Convention) and Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston. We are also seeing increasing play on BBC and regional radio so there is a bright future the the trio. The band strike a good balance between original compositions and traditional songs and tunes, allowing us to appeal to a wide audience. This EP may well be traditional, but the arrangements are refreshing and unmistakably delivered with the usual Kadia twist.

Some of these songs have a long, rich history and they have existed in different guises under various names and this EP has been named after ‘The Outlandish Knight’, an older variant of the Lady Isabel and the Elf Knight which features on this release.

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

Delivers exactly as promised, the performance is wholely engaging from start to finish, leaves you wanting more. Instrumental invention on Captain Ward and dazzling and skillful dexterity on the Cricketers Set. This EP is an absolute treat, the English Folk tradition in rude health.

A real sense of pace and drama, the trio are immediately laying a marker that they deserve to be heard in impressive company. Kadia have ensured that traditional music remains live, vibrant and most importantly relevant.

Superb arrangements; fine musicianship and wonderful vocal harmonies. Fine renditions. The keeper is sublimely impressive, but anything in the EP is wonderful anyway.

Listening to the results on decent headphones brings a smile to my lips every time, and I can only congratulate the lads on the quality of their efforts. The rich, full sound on this first track sets a high bar that the remaining four tracks easily match, it’s a great showcase for how their instrumental range is developing.

Production, delivery, and attention to detail throughout are superb. This is an EP that is so well put together it’s hard to remember it’s not a full album until you’re half way through the third listen. Kadia have found a fantastic sound. This EP lived in our car for well over a week without being taken out of the player. That speaks volumes.

For a three piece, Kadia write, produce and more importantly perform all the songs superbly, with a style and class all their own. Having honed their craft over time, there effortless but action filled live act delights with wonderful stories to each song. Each intro draws you in to the song and has you total engrossed from beginning to end. I have seen then a number of times live, and each time I have come away with my spirit lifted and embraced by the music. They are a complete delight to listen to either live, on disc or both, cannot recommend them highly enough.
